Single Cover

Single Cover Layout

Front Cover of single

Back Cover

I choose dark pink and light blue as the colour scheme for the single as these colours work well together and dark pink is a strong colour which features in the music video. The front cover of the album was inspired by David Guetta's album 'Nothing but the beat.' The strong solid colour on the background and the black and white photograph of the artist edited over the top with a shadow reflected on the back creates a very strong and eye-catching image.

Analysis of magazine adverts

Magazine advert for Florence and the Machine's CD 'Lungs'.

The advertisement has a wash-out of colour, making it look vintage and old. The artist is present and placed in the centre to attract the most attention, the image is also the same as used on the CD cover which allows the audience to identify with the advert. 'Florence + the Machine' is written in a curly font across the top of the advert, the artist is then seen through the middle and then 'Lungs' is read at the bottom. This is due to the route of Z structure, a technique used so that consumers view all the important parts of the advertisement first. The white font connotes purity which is further emphasised through the pale skin showing, 'Florence + the Machine' is a curly font to convey the name of artist and adds a feminine touch. 'Lungs' is written boldly to stand out, the image then portrays the name of the album as her lungs are on the outside of her body. This follows a principle of Goodwin's theory which is that there is a link between the lyrics and the visuals. At the bottom of the advert the date of release is shown, with a description of popular songs included in the album and the website, this is to persuade fans of other artists to buy the CD as they may be fans of the included songs.

Magazine advert for Arctic Monkeys CD 'AM'.

This advertisement uses grey colours in the background, the image is of a performance but with the main singer standing out in the middle. This long shot shows him looking superior and in control as the audience are pictured smaller and behind the star. 'Arctic Monkeys' is written in block white font to stand out, the white matches the bright lights in the background of the image. The date of release is shown in small red font and tour dates are presented underneath, tour dates are uncommon in magazine adverts. A website is shown at the bottom for more information and for tickets to the shows, this will attract people to go online and look as it is easily accessible.

Noah's role

I was the all rounder of the group. I helped with directing and was there to consult with our main director. I would contribute on things such as certain shots I felt complimented the genre that we were trying to achieve with things such as lighting. I also came up with the costumes for the 2 main characters in the video and added in certain details to fit in with the genre such as product placement. When I was not co-directing or in front of the camera, I was operating things like the smoke machine or moving the sets around depending on what setting we wanted to achieve.
In the classroom I have a say on editing as well as researching further on things such as public opinion and exploring the genre as a whole in order to fully understand the genre and contribute my findings into our music video.

Tamara's role

My role was to star in the video alongside Waseem (the star), I had to dress up and dance in front of the camera on my own and with Waseem.

I also helped with the editing of the video, I synced a master shot and helped Libby with deciding if the shots were in time to the music. I gave ideas towards which filters to use on certain shots and effects to use such as slow motion. I made the questionnaire to research our target audience for the music video, the magazine advert and album cover then Noah helped to ask people the questions. I also gave ideas on which shots to use in the music video and how we could construct this into the shots.

Group Roles

Libby - Cinematographer, main editor, director, chose location.

Waseem - Star of video, co-editor, chose background actors.

Tamara - Starred in video, co-editor.

Noah - Background actor, costume, co-cinematographer, co-editor.
